6 STEPS to a Winning Social Media Content Plan

As an entrepreneur, you know that social media is essential for reaching your target audience and growing your business. But with so many different platforms and so much content to create, it can be difficult to keep up. So you will need a concrete plan if you want to succeed on social media.

This guide will walk you through the process of creating a social media workflow and cover everything from setting goals to creating a content calendar to managing your social media accounts.

Create your own social media workflow with your virtual assistant by doing these:

1. Do your research.

Before creating any social media content, you first need to do your research. Being aware of certain things can help your business more than you think. If you’re not sure exactly what to look into, here’s a list to start you off:

  • Who is your audience? Who are you trying to reach with your content? What are their interests? What kind of content do they enjoy? What are their pain points?

  • Who are your competitors? What kind of content are they creating? What is working well for them? What could they be doing better?

  • What is your industry? What are the latest trends and news in your industry? What are people talking about?

  • What are the trends right now? What kind of content is performing well on social media right now? What are people engaging with?

Once you have a good understanding of these areas, you can start to develop a content plan that is tailored to your specific needs and goals — which is the next step:

2. Set your goals.

When setting goals for your social media content plan, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • What are my overall business goals? What do I want to achieve with my social media marketing? Do I want to increase brand awareness, generate leads, or drive sales?

  • Who is my target audience? What are their needs and interests? What kind of content do they want to see?

  • What are my competitors doing? What kind of content are they creating? What is working well for them?

  • What are the latest trends? What kind of content is trending on social media? What are people talking about?

  • What are my resources? How much time and money do I have to invest in social media marketing?

  • Now, what are my realistic goals? Don't try to do too much too soon. Start with a few achievable goals and build from there.

In addition to the above, you may also want to consider setting goals for each social media platform that you use. For example, you might want to set a goal of increasing followers on X (formerly known as Twitter) by 5% in the next month, or increasing engagement on Instagram by 10% in the next quarter.

Setting specific goals for each social media platform can help you track your progress and make sure that you are using each platform effectively.

Finally, it is important to note that your social media content goals may evolve over time. As your business grows and changes, you may need to adjust your goals accordingly. This is perfectly normal and healthy. Just be sure to review your goals regularly and make sure that they are still aligned with your overall business goals.

Once you have set your content goals, you can start thinking about how and what specific content you want to put out. So let’s get to cooking some ideas!

3. Brainstorm ideas.

Brainstorming ideas for your social media content plan is a great way to come up with fresh and engaging content. Brainstorming is especially better with a team, because it can help you identify new topics and angles that you may not even have considered before.

The questions you should be asking yourself is similar to the ones listed at #1 and #2, just a little more detailed. So if you have a team for managing your social media, make sure to talk about these with them:

  • Your audience: What are their interests? What kind of content do they enjoy? What are their pain points?

  • Your competitors: What kind of content are they creating? What is working well for them? What could they be doing better?

  • Your social media goals: What do you want to achieve with your content?

  • Trending topics and news: What are people talking about? What are the latest trends in your industry?

  • Your brand voice and tone: What kind of content do you want to be known for?

By understanding your audience, goals, competitors, and brand voice, you will be able to come up with better and efficient content ideas.

Additionally, making things more fun will definitely help you and your team to extract more efficient ideas as well. So make sure to try out these brainstorming exercises:

  • Freewriting: Write down everything that comes to mind related to your social media content plan, without worrying about grammar or spelling.

  • Mind mapping: Start with a central topic and then branch out to related ideas.

  • Brainstorming session with a team: Freewrite and mind map with your team and brainstorm ideas together!

Brainstorming ideas for your social media content plan is an important step in creating a successful content strategy. We highly suggest taking the time to brainstorm so you can come up with fresh and engaging content that will resonate with your audience.

Once you have a list of content ideas, you can start delegating tasks onto your team members (if you do have them!).

4. Delegate tasks.

Managing your own social media is not as easy when you’re doing it yourself. Just imagine posting on multiple platforms multiple times a week and keeping an eye on trends, analytics, competitors, all while making sales and keeping your business afloat.

You don't have to do everything yourself. Delegating social media tasks to a virtual assistant/team of virtual assistants can free up your time to focus on other important aspects of your business. Virtual assistants can help you with a variety of tasks, including creating and scheduling content, engaging with followers, monitoring analytics, and running social media ads.

When delegating social media tasks to your team members, you will need to:

Identify the tasks that you want to delegate.

  • Create a task delegation plan.

  • Assign tasks to your team member/s.

  • Provide training and support.

  • Monitor and provide feedback.

Delegating these tasks to your virtual assistant can help you save time and focus on other aspects of your business. This gives you the chance to grow your business and achieve your overall business goals even faster!

If you’re a small business owner and do not have a team or an assistant to delegate these tasks to, don’t worry! You can still create your own content plan, it doesn’t even need to be intricate. Using this blog as a guide, you can simply create a plan that would be best for you and your time!

5. Establish a workflow.

Now that you have everything in place, it’s time for you to take the appropriate steps toward executing your plan. If you’re planning to hire or if you already have a team who manages your social media, this would greatly benefit you and your content plans. Take the necessary steps to plan your content:

  • Create a content library.

  • Create a content calendar .

  • Start scheduling your content.

6. Analyze & monitor results

By the time you arrive at this step, you’d already have created a system for your social media marketing. But this doesn’t mean that your job is done.

The last step is going back to the first step – knowing what works or what doesn’t. The only difference this time is that you already have a good starting point with the help of your analytics.

Never neglect your analytics if you want to maintain your presence. Instead, use it to update your research and your brainstorming sessions. This way, you’ll get better and more efficient ideas that would help you gain more traction. Good luck on your social media journey!
